What Is a Deck Plate on a Faucet?
A deck plate, also called an escutcheon plate, is a flat metal plate that covers unused sink holes or the gap between a faucet and the sink deck. It gives the installation a cleaner, more finished look.
When Do You Need a Deck Plate?
- Your sink has three holes, but your new faucet only uses one.
- You are replacing a widespread faucet with a single-hole faucet.
- You want to hide old holes or surface imperfections around the faucet base.
How to Install a Deck Plate
- Turn off the water supply.
- Place the deck plate over the sink holes.
- Apply a small amount of plumber’s putty or silicone if needed.
- Install the faucet through the center hole.
- Secure the faucet from underneath and wipe away excess sealant.
