What Is a Deck Plate on a Faucet?

A deck plate, also called an escutcheon plate, is a flat metal plate that covers unused sink holes or the gap between a faucet and the sink deck. It gives the installation a cleaner, more finished look.

When Do You Need a Deck Plate?

  • Your sink has three holes, but your new faucet only uses one.
  • You are replacing a widespread faucet with a single-hole faucet.
  • You want to hide old holes or surface imperfections around the faucet base.

How to Install a Deck Plate

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Place the deck plate over the sink holes.
  3. Apply a small amount of plumber’s putty or silicone if needed.
  4. Install the faucet through the center hole.
  5. Secure the faucet from underneath and wipe away excess sealant.
