Private Home | Undefined Duplex Space

In the popular trends of contemporary living, “de-stylization” has always been a core topic repeatedly discussed. Contemporary people are tired of being bound by established patterns and resist being defined by single style labels. If one builds an exclusive residence within fixed rule frameworks, it is extremely easy to fall into the dilemma of standardization and symbolization where everything looks the same. The two cases shared today come from Yuyi Design and Xinghan Design. In duplex spaces, they create strong fusions of different styles, starting from more comfortable, freer, and more personalized perspectives to form the core concept of home.

140㎡ Natural Solid Wood Duplex in Chengdu, Sichuan

This is a renovation project of a unit residence over 20 years old. It was the house where the male and female owners lived when they were young and working. It is a one-to-two lower duplex structure. Only the first floor was renovated, while the second floor, which serves as the quiet bedroom area, retains its original condition. The first-floor living and dining room has a split-level structure with a ceiling height of 3.3 meters. The interior space is cold in winter and cool in summer, so the overall space adopts natural wood colors to regulate the perception of indoor temperature. Through garden creation, indoor and outdoor greenery echo each other, with space left blank, creating a natural, comfortable, and relaxed spatial atmosphere. At the same time, it pays attention to the details of elderly living, creating an age-friendly residential design, allowing life to return to its essence!

The overall design style is modern minimalism, emphasizing functionality and simplicity of form. Through clean lines, open spatial layouts, and the use of natural materials, a modern yet warm living environment is created.

The living room design is simple and elegant. The pairing of a white sofa with a wooden coffee table is both modern and comfortable. The TV background wall uses wooden material, echoing the flooring and enhancing the unity of the space. Large windows bring in ample natural light, making the space brighter.

The entryway area is designed simply, forming a natural transition with the living room through the extension of wooden flooring and wall surfaces. A wooden storage cabinet on one side provides ample storage space while keeping the area tidy.
The dining and kitchen area adopts an open design, combining the kitchen island with the dining table, which not only increases the working space but also facilitates interaction among family members. The pendant light design adds a modern touch to the space while providing ample lighting.
The bathroom is designed to be simple and practical, adopting a wet-dry separation design that enhances convenience of use. Light-colored tiles are used on the walls and floor, making the space appear cleaner and brighter.

Eclecticism | Xinghan Design

150㎡ Minimalist Duplex Private Residence in Suzhou, Jiangsu

In the mottled traces of time, there is a kind of beauty that is not confined to a single form and not bound by tradition. It is like a traveler crossing through time and space, skillfully merging the essence of ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign. This is the unique charm of eclectic decoration. It is not merely a stacking of styles, but a profound dialogue about aesthetics, culture, and individuality.

Walking into the living room of this decoration case, what first catches the eye is its open and tidy spatial layout. There is no traditional TV or sofa background wall here. Such a design not only makes the space appear more transparent and spacious but also encourages residents to focus more on communication and interaction between people. In the center of the living room sits a pixel sofa set, whose unique shape and soft colors not only add vitality to the space but are also very suitable for parent-child activities. Imagine a weekend afternoon, with the whole family gathered on the sofa, watching movies and playing games together — such a scene is undoubtedly full of warmth and joy.

Particularly worth mentioning is that the living room is also adorned with a traditional Chinese color — purple-clay red open shelving. This vibrant red not only adds vitality and warmth to the living room but also integrates the essence of traditional Chinese culture into modern home design. This cross-cultural fusion and innovation is precisely the essence of the eclectic style.

The sliding glass door, with its thin and transparent characteristics, skillfully connects the kitchen and dining room seamlessly, maintaining the openness of the space without losing privacy. Whenever sunlight shines through the windows onto the sliding glass, light and shadow intertwine, and the warmth and elegance of home naturally arise.

Stepping into the master bedroom, a simple yet warm atmosphere comes rushing in. The warm white base tone is simple and elegant, setting a comfortable foundation for the entire space. The custom purple-clay red bed and open cabinets dotted within become the visual focal points. Arranged with a sense of rhythm and order, with distinct colors, they not only reflect the owner’s unique taste but also fill the entire space with a sense of layering.

Climbing the stairs, this is the multifunctional study on the second floor. It is not only a space for peaceful reading and thinking but also conceals a cleverly designed hidden folding bed. Have you spotted its traces yet? The pocket sliding door design greatly saves space, making the entire study both practical and spacious. In such an environment, whether working or taking a short rest, one can find their own tranquility and ease.

Unlike the singularity and rigidity of traditional decoration styles, this place is filled with the freedom and diversity of eclecticism. So-called eclecticism is not a simple stacking of styles, but a clever fusion and innovation based on a deep understanding of the essence of various styles, thereby creating an effect that is both unique and harmonious as a whole. After all, in today’s pursuit of personalization and diversification, everyone has a unique understanding of home aesthetics. And it is precisely these differences and diversities that constitute our rich and colorful living world.
